Lucas Ocampos, a player for Sevilla, was physically abused by a spectator during a La Liga game

During their Monday Spanish league game, a Sevilla player looked to be impeded by a Rayo Vallecano supporter as he attempted to throw in.

On the touchline was Lucas Ocampos. Thirty-three minutes into the first half, a spectator made a gesture to poke his rear end. The winger from Argentina turned to argue with the young fan before beckoning the referee to intervene. The game was momentarily stopped.

While Rayo players pleaded with the audience to behave, other supporters made fun of the scenario.

“The (video) images show what happened,” Ocampos said to broadcaster DAZN. “I hope La Liga treats it with the same gravity as racism and similar issues. Although they have always treated us with respect, I don’t believe that all Rayo people are like that. However, there is always one idiot.

“I hope it doesn’t happen somewhere else because we know what may happen if something occurs during a women’s football game. I hope that my two girls don’t experience something similar in the future, so I maintained my composure. I hope that the necessary steps are done and that an idiot like this does not tarnish the reputation of a group of fans who have generally shown excellent behavior.

Sevilla halted their six-game losing run with a 2-1 victory, and the event was the only negative aspect of an otherwise fantastic evening. Sevilla is now three points clear of the relegation zone in 15th position in La Liga.

Although Rayo was two spots higher, the squad lost for the sixth consecutive game, and coach Francisco will be concerned about his side’s lack of skill in front of goal. In La Liga, only Mallorca and Cadiz have less goals.

After 19 minutes, visiting Sevilla led courtesy of a fortunate break and some smart finishing. Isaac Romero misdirected a ball that bounced off a Rayo defender and straight into the path of Youssef En-Nesyri, who scored from eighteen meters with ease.

Ten minutes later, Isi Palazón headed in a left-wing cross from Alfonso Espino to tie the score for the home team.

However, a minute before halftime, Romero and En-Nesyri connected once again to give Sevilla the lead. After a fast counterattack, En-Nesyri finished deftly after receiving a ball from Romero.
